The income of the Parish Council is derived primarily from a precept via the local Council Tax. Unlike County and District Councils, Parish Councils receive no money from central government, nor do we receive anything from the National Non Domestic Rates (the business rates levied on shops and business premises).
The 'precept' is levied by the Parish Council on the Huntingdonshire District Council and represents the sum that the Parish Council considers that it needs to enable it to operate for the year. This precept is added to those levied by the Cambridgeshire County Council, Huntingdonshire District Council, Cambridgeshire Police Authority and Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service, and in total equate to the amount of Council Tax payable by residents for the year.
The parish council is entitled to 15% of the levy made by the District Council on planning applications within the parish.
